Part two of Jim Owsley and Phil Gascoine's 12-part mature-readers series finds the bandage-wrapped Unknown Soldier locked in a desperate grapple with a uniformed adversary at the edge of a rooftop, tiny military vehicles scattered on the street far below — a cover that makes good on the tagline "It only looks like a war story." Gascoine's linework gives the struggle a raw, kinetic energy, the two figures straining against each other with sparks already flying where boots meet concrete. If this Holiday 1988 issue is any indication, this reimagined DC series has plenty of surprises still to come.
