Will Eisner's masked crimefighter finds himself in a precarious position on Brian Bolland's striking cover for this May 2009 issue — the Spirit dangles helplessly from an elaborate chandelier mechanism, his blue suit rumpled and red tie askew, while a gleaming blonde in a strapless red dress smiles with unmistakable mischief below him. A pair of purple-gloved hands plays the organ keys in the foreground, rounding out a scene that perfectly captures the operatic intrigue promised by the story title "Siren of the Opera." With Uslan and DeSanto scripting and Justiniano on interior art, this middle chapter of the "Choices" trilogy looks like a real treat for fans of stylish, pulpy adventure.
