The Spirit #2
The Spirit #2 is an anthology containing three stories. "The Case of the Baleful Buddah" follows Mort Magnum, who operates a café called the Bucket of Blood that is kept open year after year despite its unprofitable nature due to derelicts frequenting the establishment. "The A-Gun Cruise of the Contraband Queen" features a woman offering girls a cruise on a ship for a cent, arranging marriages to wealthy shipping magnates, with a wedding ceremony aboard the vessel. "Captain Isotope" involves a two-million-dollar jewel robbery, with Captain Isotope and a woman named Ellen caught up in the criminal plot, leading to a comedic resolution where the Spirit discovers the captain's involvement.
In "The Amazing Affair of the First Man On Mars," TV star Captain Isotope's larger-than-life persona leads him to believe he can actually fly to Mars—much to the Spirit's amusement, especially as he’s busy keeping an eye on Ellen. With a mix of bravado and absurdity, the story follows the unlikely journey of a man who thinks he’s a space pioneer, all while the Spirit watches from the sidelines.
