The penultimate chapter of "The Search for God" arc arrives in this November 1997 issue, with a cover by Tim Bradstreet that sets a brooding, atmospheric tone. A hooded figure draped in a sweeping black cloak stands before a crumbling stone wall, an ornate stained-glass rose window blazing in fiery oranges and reds behind them — while a second shadowy, hunched figure lurks in the lower foreground. John Ostrander and Tom Mandrake's long-running collaboration on this series consistently delivered this kind of quiet menace, and Bradstreet's painterly restraint makes this one of the more striking covers of the run.
