The Spectre #20
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThe Spectre looms large on Bill Sienkiewicz's painted cover for this July 1994 issue — the Spirit of Vengeance's ghostly green visage fills the background while crackling white-blue energy tears through a skeletal, outstretched hand in the foreground, creating an atmosphere that's genuinely unsettling. John Ostrander and John Ridgway continue their run with "Strange Friends," the second chapter of the Spear of Destiny arc. It's a striking package that showcases Sienkiewicz's painterly style at its moody, supernatural best.

Professor Nicodemus Hazzard visits the members of the Justice Society of America that fought alongside the Spectre during World War II. From the stories they tell him about the Spectre, he learns that three mystical objects created the zone of influence, which kept magic-based heroes from ending the war, and that one of those objects, the Spear of Destiny, could destroy the Spectre.
