Part of Marvel's 1989 "Inferno" crossover, this "Night of Madness" chapter drops Spider-Man into a genuinely unsettling scenario: the industrial pipework of the Osborn Chemical Company has come alive, great coiling yellow tubes attacking both our hero and a terrified civilian pinned beneath them. A shadowy winged figure lurks ominously in the smoky background, adding to the chaos as Spidey fights to keep the situation from spiraling out of control. Sal Buscema's cover art delivers the supernatural menace of the Inferno event with a kinetic, grounded energy — chaos made vivid and immediate.
