This January 1988 issue kicks off an "all-new, all-daring 3-part saga" with a cover that hits hard: Spider-Man in his black costume lies battered at the bottom of the image, caught in a searing blast of energy, while the looming, masked figure of the Sin-Eater dominates the blood-red background alongside a shadowy onlooker. Sal Buscema's stark, high-contrast cover work makes the threat feel immediate and inescapable.
