“Shooting Spider-Man”

Part 1 of the six-part "Blood Brothers" arc kicks off with a genuinely unsettling cover from Dan Jurgens and Klaus Janson: a maskless Peter Parker — wearing his Spider-Man suit — is caught dead center in a sniper's crosshairs, the bold "EXPOSED!" banner below leaving no doubt about the danger he's in. The tight circular scope framing and the brick-wall backdrop give the image a tense, voyeuristic chill that sets the tone for the story title, "Shooting Spider-Man," perfectly. If you were following the mid-'90s Spider-titles, this is exactly the kind of high-stakes opener that made it hard to put the issue down.
