Sensational Spider-Man #11 is the second chapter of the four-part 'Revelations' crossover that closed out the Clone Saga — one of the most sprawling and contested Spider-Man storylines of the 1990s. This issue delivers the in-costume unmasking of the cybernetic villain Gaunt as Mendel Stromm, the Robot Master, a Ditko-era character last seen decades earlier, while simultaneously setting in motion the drugged labor of Mary Jane Watson-Parker that will echo across the Spider-Man line for years. The two narrative threads running through this issue — the revelation of Stromm's identity and MJ's premature labor — represent the Clone Saga's pivot toward its endgame, culminating in Norman Osborn's return from the dead one issue later in Spider-Man #75. The issue was written by Todd Dezago and penciled by Mike Wieringo, with inks by Richard Case, colors by Gregory Wright, and letters by Richard Starkings/Comicraft — the core creative team that had taken over Sensational Spider-Man from the departing Dan Jurgens. The 'Revelations' storyline itself was shaped by significant editorial turbulence: an earlier outline envisioned Harry Osborn as the Clone Saga's hidden mastermind, and the storyline was even going to be called 'The Book of Revelations' with Norman Osborn's journal as a prominent feature. When editor-in-chief Bob Harras overruled the writers and editors — nearly all of whom objected — and mandated that Norman Osborn be the true villain, the narrative was restructured around Mendel Stromm's role as Gaunt, a last-minute identity swap that allowed the threads to point toward Osborn without revealing him until the crossover's finale. Norman Osborn appears in this issue only in shadow, his identity still concealed, per the notes catalogued in the Marvel Database.
