The Savage Sword of Conan #202
In "The Sword and the Scythe (Conan in the City of Magicians, part 1)," Conan—now a prisoner in the exotic, treacherous city of Kush—must ally with the imprisoned demon Imhotep, Ravager of Worlds, to survive. With the Queen’s lust and deadly magics closing in, the two outcasts forge a dangerous pact: Conan will retrieve a stolen amulet from the sorcerer Hak-Heru, and in return, Imhotep will free Conan’s captured crew. Written by Roy Thomas and illustrated with bold precision by John Buscema, inks by Ernie Chan, and lettered by Diana Albers, this issue brings the legendary barbarian into a world of arcane peril. The cover, by Earl Norem, captures the clash of sword and scythe in vivid, dramatic detail.

Forced to land on the shores of Kush, Conan and his Barachan pirates are imprisoned, and only Imhotep, Ravager of Worlds, can save them. Conan has had dealings with Imhotep years before, but now the demon is trapped in human form on Earth. When Imhotep and Conan are summoned to the Queen in order to satisfy her carnal needs, they both manage to escape. Imhotep promises Conan to free his men if Conan first helps him take back an amulet from the magician Hak-Heru.
