“Treachery on Tortage”

In "Treachery on Tortage," Conan finds himself stranded on the Barachan Isles after a brutal betrayal by Black Zarono, who has handed the islands over to the Zingaran Navy. With only a few loyal pirates at his side, Conan must survive the invasion and navigate a web of deceit when Lord Hambria demands he lead them to an underwater temple—only for the sorcerer Sinnjatorix to unleash a monstrous force he cannot control. Written by Roy Thomas and illustrated with dynamic precision by John Buscema, with inks by Ernie Chan and lettering by Diana Albers, this issue delivers a classic tale of betrayal, ancient power, and survival. The cover, by Ovi Hondru, captures the grim intensity of the moment.

Black Zarono has betrayed the Barachan Isles to the Zingaran Navy. Conan and a mere handful of pirates fail to defend the Port Torage from these savage invaders. Lord Hambria (the husband of Lady Morganis) demands that Conan lead him to an underwater temple so that his magician Sinnjatorix can usurp the power of the monster Atarata. However, Sinnjatorix cannot control the power and is turned into a monster himself who slays Lord Hambria. Conan kills Sinnjatorix and is then rescued by some Barachan pirates.
