“The Winds of Aka-Gaar”

Against a sky churning with fire and smoke, Conan rides a heavily armored warhorse through what appears to be a battlefield strewn with skulls, sword leveled and expression fierce beneath an ornate horned helmet — a striking 1985 painted-style cover rendered by Michael Golden. A female warrior clings behind him, and shadowy figures with armor and weapons crowd the hellish background, giving the whole image a sweeping, battle-hardened atmosphere. Inside, Larry Yakata and Gary Kwapisz bring "The Winds of Aka-Gaar" to life in Marvel's beloved black-and-white magazine format, making this a thoroughly satisfying entry in the long-running series.
