The Savage Hawkman #5

Part of DC's New 52 initiative, The Savage Hawkman #5 arrives in 2012 with Philip Tan's cover dropping the winged warrior straight into a waking nightmare — Hawkman, clad in his gold nth-metal armor and massive black wings spread wide, fights off a swarming horde of rotting undead attackers who claw and grasp at him from every direction. The tagline "Attacked by the Undead!" leaves little ambiguity about the threat he's facing, and Tan's visceral, detail-packed artwork gives the assault a genuinely unsettling energy. Writers Tony Salvador Daniel and James Bonny team with Tan on the interior, making this an issue where the creative team is firing on all cylinders.
