The Punisher: War Zone #13

There's something wonderfully unsettling about this March 1993 cover, where a broad-shouldered man in a flannel shirt rides a lawn mower across a perfectly trimmed suburban yard — except the grass has been cut into the unmistakable shape of the Punisher's skull emblem. A torn newspaper clipping overlaid on the scene quotes neighbors describing the man as "a quiet man who had never bothered anyone," and the tidy setting — white picket fence, backyard grill, red bicycle leaning against it — makes the whole thing feel both cheerful and deeply ominous. Cover art by Mike McKone, inked by Mark McKenna and Mick Gray, sets the stage for "Happy Days" with a pitch-perfect blend of Americana and menace.
