The Power of SHAZAM! #48
Part of DC's sweeping "Blackest Night" crossover, this March 2010 issue of The Power of Shazam! carries a cover by Jerry Ordway that makes its intentions unmistakably clear: "Osiris Rises!" A zombified, lightning-wreathed Osiris claws his way up from what appears to be an ancient sarcophagus, one decayed hand crackling with eerie blue energy as smoke curls around him — it's a genuinely unsettling image rendered with real craft. Writer Eric Wallace and artist Don Kramer, inked by Michael Babinski, bring the Shazam corner of the DC Universe into the darkest event of 2010 with a story titled "Rest in Peace" — a title that feels deliciously ironic given what's on that cover.
