The Plain Janes #[nn]
In "The PLAIN Janes," writer Cecil Castellucci and artist Jim Rugg deliver a heartfelt, sharply observed story of identity, resilience, and quiet rebellion. As Main Jane navigates an art grant application and her friends confront personal disappointments, the girls channel their frustrations into a bold, unapologetic prom performance that redefines what it means to be seen. Cover by Jim Rugg, this 2020 issue captures a moment of collective transformation—where vulnerability becomes power, and small acts of defiance ripple into something unforgettable.

Damon is arrested for the New Years PLAIN attack, and Main Jane's mother withdraws even farther from the world. Drama Jane travels to the city to throw her heart at the feet of an actor, as Main Jane applies for an art grant; both are disappointed. Main Jane comforts herself with letters from Poland, and all the girls find dates for the prom, which they turn into a PLAIN attack to applause from their schoolmates, finally forcing the municipality to accept the PLAIN projects for which they have, at last, received their grant. Mrs. Beckles leaves the house to join the celebration.
