The Phantom Stranger #6

High above a city skyline, the Phantom Stranger — black-cloaked, white-gloved, and wide-eyed — strains to push shut a massive green door floating in the sky while a woman in black urges him on, pleading for him to close it before the sky-monsters get through. A tremendous monstrous claw reaches around the door's edge, making it terrifyingly clear what's at stake in "The Doorway in the Sky." This June–July 1953 DC issue showcases a wonderfully unsettling cover by penciler Murphy Anderson and inker Joe Giella, perfectly capturing the Phantom Stranger's signature blend of the supernatural and the suspenseful.
