Doctor Pipt is nearly finished making a new batch of the Powder of Life and he demonstrates its properties by introducing Bungle, the Glass Cat, which he brought to life some time ago (though he regrets it a bit because the creature is rude and bad-tempered). The doctor's wife shows Ojo and Unk Nunkie the next recipient of the Powder, a girl made from a patchwork quilt who will come to life as a servant.
