Jonathan Hickman's one-man creative operation continues with issue three of The Nightly News, its chapter subtitle — "We Don't Need No Education" — setting a defiant tone right from the cover. That cover, rendered entirely by Hickman, presents a bearded, hat-wearing figure in a long coat raising what appears to be a pistol, surrounded by floating circles in a warm sepia-and-rust palette that gives the whole image a stylized, almost hypnotic quality. If you've been following this 2007 Image series, this issue's promised themes of education, Ritalin, and choice suggest the series keeps pushing its sharp cultural critique forward.
