James Tynion IV's unsettling DC Vertigo series continues with issue #8, and Álvaro Martínez Bueno's cover perfectly captures the series' haunting duality. A young woman stands in profile at a chalkboard dense with equations, her image overlaid — or perhaps reflected — against a flooded, devastated cityscape bathed in moody pink and purple light, submerged cars and ruined streets stretching behind her. It's a quietly striking image, Jordie Bellaire's atmospheric color work blending the intellectual and the apocalyptic into something that lingers long after you set it down.
