“Where Strides the Behemoth”

In "Where Strides the Behemoth," Matt Murdock’s life takes a dramatic turn when a radioactive canister leaves him blind—but grants him heightened senses and a unique radar sense. Written by Stan Lee and illustrated by Bill Everett, with inks by Steve Ditko and Sol Brodsky, this early Daredevil tale follows Matt as he channels his trauma into justice, eventually crafting a costume and weapon from his cane, embracing the name Daredevil. The cover by Jim Starlin and Joe Sinnott captures the intensity of a hero born from sacrifice.

Matt Murdock saves a blind man from an oncoming truck but is struck blind himself by a radioactive canister during the rescue. The radioactivity heightens Matt's other senses and gives him an uncanny radar sense. Matt graduates college and begins practicing law with his college roommate Foggy. Matt's father, a boxer, is killed by the Fixer after he refuses to throw a fight; Matt designs a costume and a billy club (from his cane) and takes his derogatory childhood nickname "Daredevil."
