The Mighty Crusaders Special #1
Four heroes stare out from a bold quadrant design on this 2010 DC one-shot, with an American flag, crackling green energy, and dramatic flames framing each intense portrait. The cover by Stanley "Artgerm" Lau gives each member of the Mighty Crusaders their own striking close-up — a masked hero in dark blue, a goggled figure radiating eerie green light, a powerfully built man wreathed in fire, and a brooding figure cloaked in shadow. With four writers — Matthew Sturges, Brandon Jerwa, John Rozum, and Eric S. Trautmann — and artist Javi Pina contributing to "Full Circle," this special feels like a genuine celebration of the team's depth and range.

When an old, handsize safe with mystic power surfaces in an underworld auction, it attracts the attention of the Global Council, Group Epsilon, the U.S. Army's Project Shield, a number of supervillains and the Web. When the Web makes off with the safe, Inferno, Comet, the Hangman and the Shield become involved. But only when the Hangman opens the safe and releases a giant, mechanical spider do the heroes -- led by the Shield -- begin working together.
