“The Mighty Crusaders”

DC's 2010 six-issue series kicks off with a cover by Stanley "Artgerm" Lau that puts the full Mighty Crusaders roster front and center — a masked, scarf-wearing leader dominates the foreground while teammates fan out behind him: a dark-caped gunman, a glowing red powerhouse, a winged hero, an angelic white-winged figure, a green-suited female fighter, and a stocky fiery brawler squaring off against a hulking flame-wielding opponent, all framed by a massive armored vehicle's blazing headlights. The composition crackles with energy, selling the team's mix of brute strength, aerial agility, and tactical firepower in one sweeping image. With Trautmann and Jerwa scripting and Julian Lopez on interior art, this opener looks like a genuinely fun revival of a team with deep roots in superhero history.

As the team is introduced in their first press conference as a government-sponsered super team, they are attacked by the Mechanistas. Later, the Hangman appears to the group as a recently slain senator is revealed to be a shape-shifting alien. Latham then tells the team of a civil war among the Durlans, who've decided to use earth as a battlefield. The Crusaders invade Arvin Halliday's complex for more information, but Halliday escapes just as the building explodes.
