The Mask Returns #1

Dark Horse's 1992 four-part series kicks off with a cover by Doug Mahnke that says everything you need to know about the tone: the Mask's green-faced, wild-eyed figure stands triumphant atop a mountain of spent shell casings, hoisting a massive machine gun draped in an ammunition belt, blood-spattered jeans and all. It's chaotic, kinetic, and gleefully over-the-top — exactly the anarchic energy that made this character such a compelling presence in early '90s comics. As a bonus, the issue even comes with a free Mask mask inside, making it a genuinely fun package from the start.
