# The Lone Rider #23 The issue contains two stories. "Lightnin' Mero-Horse" follows the masked hero Lightnin' as he pursues Rex Mel, a criminal who has kidnapped an innocent boy and is using a steam-powered iron horse to escape. Lightnin' catches up to Rex Mel at a train station where the villain is holding the child hostage on a platform. "Bad Medicine" features a snake oil salesman's fraudulent tonic being challenged when a prospector finds a mysterious placard advertising "Free Medicine for All" from Dr. Fothergill's Snake Oil Tonic, leading to a confrontation between the salesman and an Apache chief over the deceptive product. A third story depicts Swift Arrow, an Apache scout, executing a strategic ambush on a fort by leading enemy forces into a trap, resulting in a fierce battle with heavy casualties among the opposing soldiers.
