“The Train from Independence”

This March 1952 Dell issue puts the Lone Ranger front and center in a tense, smoke-filled gunfight, his black mask and white hat instantly recognizable as he fires both revolvers from behind cover. Tonto crouches just behind him, pistol raised and ready, the two companions clearly standing together against whatever threat lurks beyond the barricade. With interior art by Rex Maxon and a cover painted by Ernest Nordli, this is a handsome snapshot of the duo at their most determined — all tied together by the promise of "The Train from Independence.
