“I Will Keep Faith”

In "I Will Keep Faith," Garth Ennis and PJ Holden deliver a gripping chapter of The Lion & The Eagle, following the Chindits as they push deep behind enemy lines in WWII-era Burma. After the sudden death of General Orde Wingate, the unit is abruptly repositioned to support a new campaign—cut off from supplies and ill-equipped for the fight ahead. The story unfolds with quiet intensity, grounded in the weight of duty and the cost of loyalty, with Tim Bradstreet’s stark cover capturing the tension of a mission hanging by a thread.

The Chindits leapfrog the front line by air, and establish themselves in the Japanese rear, disrupting their planned invasion of India. But when commanding general Orde Wingate is killed in an airplane crash, the Chindits are ordered to disengage, relocate, and protect the Chinese invasion of Burma under Stillwell. This cuts them off from their supplies, and places them in a role for which they do not have proper weapons or equipment.
