The Invisibles #9

From Grant Morrison, Jill Thompson, and Dennis Cramer, this June 1995 entry in DC Vertigo's boundary-pushing series carries the unsettling subtitle "23: Things Fall Apart." Sean Phillips's cover art depicts a bald, dark-glassed figure mid-scream, arms outstretched, surrounded by a ring of glowing golden shapes — all dwarfed by the looming shadow of an enormous hand pressed against the wall behind him. It's a striking image of vulnerability and cosmic dread that captures exactly the kind of psychedelic unease The Invisibles does so well.
