The Goon #35
The Goon and his small, bespectacled companion Franky find themselves displayed as carnival attractions at "Brigadoon's Dreamland Carnival," chained to a heavy iron trunk while a crowd of grotesque, wide-eyed onlookers surrounds them — a sideshow sign promising "The Wild Two-Fisted Beer Drinker and His Vulgar Monkey" completing the indignity. Eric Powell's cover art strikes a perfect balance between humor and genuine menace, with the big lug looking stoic in his newsboy cap and leopard-print suspenders while chaos leers all around him. This 2011 Dark Horse entry pairs Powell with writer Evan Dorkin, a collaboration that promises the series' trademark blend of supernatural weirdness and deadpan comedy.
