The Friendly Ghost, Casper #99

Even underwater, Casper the Friendly Ghost can't catch a break — this November 1966 Harvey Comics cover finds the little ghost coming face-to-face with a very toothy, wide-jawed shark amid a shower of bubbles on the ocean floor. The contrast between Casper's gentle, wide-eyed expression and the shark's chomping grin makes for a wonderfully charming bit of comic tension that perfectly captures the series' playful spirit. At 12 cents, issue #99 is a delightful snapshot of Harvey's knack for putting their beloved ghost into whimsical scrapes that kids of 1966 couldn't resist.
