The Flash: Futures End #1
Part of DC's sweeping New 52: Futures End event, this 2014 one-shot drops readers into a grim, ruined cityscape where a Flash in a sleek silver-and-black armored suit — crackling with vivid orange Speed Force lightning — charges forward through the devastation, a "Welcome to the End" sign visible in the rubble behind him. The cover's framing device, with its red-tinted destroyed city bleeding into the central image, does a terrific job of selling a future gone very wrong. Robert Venditti and Van Jensen write, with Brett Booth and Norm Rapmund delivering the kinetic cover art that makes this one-shot hard to pass by.
