“Insurgency: Chapter Three”

Vertigo's creepy-crawly horror series reaches "Insurgency: Chapter Three" with issue #9, and Philip Bond's cover art makes an immediate, unsettling impression — a grotesquely enlarged fly dominates the image, its segmented, inflamed body glowing with an almost supernatural reddish luminescence, while a smaller insect figure is eerily visible within the translucent wing. Simon Oliver's scripts and Tony Moore's interior art (inked here with Ande Parks and Sean Parsons, and colored by Brian Buccellato) have been pushing this Vertigo series into genuinely disquieting territory, and this 2006 issue shows the arc building toward something deeply strange. If you've been following the bug-infested world of The Exterminators, this mid-arc chapter promises the series is nowhere near done escalating.
