This Vertigo series from 2008 kicks off "Bug Brothers Forever" with a cover by Philip Bond that's equal parts unsettling and darkly brilliant — a massive, glowing green cockroach with vivid red eyes perches atop a human skull, antennae raised, while flies swarm the background against a cityscape that looks decidedly worse for wear. It's a striking visual argument that no matter what humanity builds, the insects are patient enough to outlast it all. Simon Oliver, Tony Moore, and John Lucas bring their gritty, creepy-crawly world to this opening chapter, and Bond's cover sets the tone perfectly.
