The End League #1

Dec 2007 · Dark Horse · 2.99 USD

The End League #1 introduces a world reshaped by catastrophe, where Astonishman’s desperate act of destroying an alien vessel triggers a chain reaction that mutates survivors into powerful beings known as magnificents—many of whom turn to selfish ends. Gathering the few who still believe in justice, Astonishman leads them on a quest to find Thor’s hammer, the only hope of restoring balance. Written by Rick Remender and illustrated with bold, dynamic art by Mat Broome, with inks by Sean Parsons, colors by Wendy Broome, and letters by Rus Wooton, the cover by Mat Broome captures the scale of this fractured world.

Astonishman destroys an alien vessel, causing a warhead detonation that causes a chain reaction in the alien vessel's engines. The result is the death of billions and the mutation of the many of those left into magnificents. Most of the magnificents became self-serving and thus villains. Astonishman gathered the more altruistic together in hopes of finding Thor's hammer, the only weapon powerful enough to help reclaim the world.
