Writer Ed Brisson first conceived the project around 2008, drawing on his personal displacement from Oshawa, Ontario — the Canadian city where he spent the first fourteen years of his life — and a real encounter with a childhood acquaintance who could no longer recall him. He pitched an early version, then called simply 'Oshawa,' to a publisher in 2011, but the collaboration fell apart over creative differences; the manuscript sat dormant on his hard drive for years before BOOM! Studios editor Elizabeth Brei shepherded it to publication. The five-issue limited series launched February 14, 2024, with issue #1 selling out quickly enough to prompt a second printing before issue #2 arrived, and #4 followed on May 15, 2024, with Italian artist Luca Casalanguida, colorist Dee Cunniffe, and letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou maintaining the complete creative team throughout the run.
