Ed Brisson had been developing the concept behind The Displaced for over fifteen years before it finally reached print — describing the story as both a personal tribute to Oshawa, where he spent his first fourteen years, and a wider commentary on how news media forgets victims as it moves from story to story. BOOM! Studios editor Elizabeth Brei shepherded the project, pairing Brisson with Italian artist Luca Casalanguida — who had built his English-market profile through Sergio Bonelli Editore titles and prior BOOM! work on Regarding the Matter of Oswald's Body — alongside colorist Dee Cunniffe and letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou. The series was announced in November 2023 and released on February 14, 2024, as a five-issue limited run.
