The Demon #55

Garth Ennis and John McCrea's run on The Demon hits its penultimate chapter with issue #55, and the cover by McCrea sets the tone perfectly: Etrigan lounges in the foreground looking thoroughly unmotivated while an armored, caped figure blazes away with a machine gun beside a crowd of monstrous allies, all as winged angelic warriors swarm through a fiery sky above them. The exchange captured in the speech bubbles — "Etrigan! Get off yer butt and help us!" met with "What for? We're a buncha losers!" — sums up Ennis's irreverent take on the rhyming demon with sharp, self-aware wit. "The Longest Day, Part One" promises the kind of chaotic supernatural warfare that made this creative team's 1995 work on the title so memorable.
