“Castle of the Damned”

Etrigan the Demon charges into medieval mayhem on this November 1993 issue, sword raised high atop a rearing blue horse as a burning battlefield and a grim stone tower loom behind him. Skeletal figures and a top-hatted, skull-faced figure crowd the foreground, giving the cover a wonderfully sinister edge that perfectly suits the story title "Castle of the Damned." With Garth Ennis writing and John McCrea on art, this series was firing on all cylinders, and this cover — pencilled by Kevin Altieri — captures the book's raw, hell-soaked energy beautifully.
