The Cull #4

The fourth issue of Image Comics' The Cull arrives with a hauntingly beautiful cover by Mattia De Iulis — a close-up portrait of a figure with glowing magenta eyes, their stone-grey skin threaded with sinuous tendrils while dozens of luminous, bird-like shapes swirl through the cosmic space behind them. The tension between vulnerability and something deeply uncanny is palpable, and De Iulis's painterly craft gives the image a dreamlike intensity that's hard to look away from. With Kelly Thompson writing and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou lettering, this 2023 series continues to feel like one of Image's most visually distinctive offerings.
