The Chronicles of Conan #14
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis volume collects issues #161–#171 of the original Marvel Comics series, featuring the classic Conan tales by writer Roy Thomas and artist John Buscema. The stories include the title arc 'Shadow of the Beast,' along with other adventures that pit the Cimmerian against sorcery, monsters, and political intrigue in the Hyborian Age. This collection continues Dark Horse's comprehensive reprinting of the early Conan the Barbarian comics from the 1970s and 1980s.
In "The Moon-Eaters of Darfar!", Conan and Diana of Nemedia flee the cursed lands of Darfar, seeking refuge with the enigmatic Thutmekri. When the pair split, Conan and the young Erfu volunteer as captives to infiltrate the moon-worshipping cult, leading to a tense escape and a dangerous alliance forged in shadow. As loyalties shift and old bonds fray, Conan and Erfu must rely on each other to survive the night.
In "Sons of the Bear God!", Conan and Erfu flee into the grasslands, only to be captured by Shemites and forced into servitude. There, Conan discovers a band of enslaved Aesirs, including Niord, and takes up arms against their dwarven captors. When the dwarves summon their bear-god in desperation, Conan faces the monstrous deity in a battle that tests both his strength and will.
In "Cimmerian -- Against a City!", Conan finds himself trapped in a treacherous court where loyalty is a blade and betrayal wears a crown. With Tossa the Golden and Erfu plotting his downfall, he steals a priest’s enchanted ears to hear the truth beneath lies—and turns his fury on King Aosoka. Forced to flee the city’s shadowed halls, Conan seeks refuge in the unlikely alliance of Thanamund, testing his strength and cunning in a fight for survival.
In "Buryat Besieged!", Conan and Niord lead a desperate charge to reclaim the city from the grip of the lotus-drugged elite. As rival warlords Tossa the Golden and Thanamund scheme in the shadows, blood and betrayal run deep—until Erfu steps in to save Conan from a fate worse than death.
In "A Devil in the Family!", Conan finds himself caught between loyalty and danger when Stygians attack Erfu, leaving him wounded. With the help of the healer Moraga, Conan must protect her and her son Naj from a demon that has set its sights on them, testing his strength and resolve in a battle that blurs the line between the supernatural and the personal.
Conan, disgraced after a gambling loss, watches helplessly as Kagal steals Tamris and flees to a secluded manse. Pursuing him through shadowed halls, Conan discovers Kagal dead—his killer a monstrous figure trapped in the form of a mastiff, Caldix. With Tamris still in danger and the beast’s true nature a mystery, Conan must face the twisted horror before him, sword in hand and fate at his throat.
In "A War of Wizards!", Conan finds himself entangled in a deadly game of power and magic when he must confront Red Sonja in combat, only to trade victory for the return of Bêlit—revived through the dark sorcery of Zukala. With lives hanging in the balance and ancient forces stirring, Conan must choose between vengeance and sacrifice, facing down a sorcerer whose price may be more than any warrior can bear.
