The Boys #23
Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson's satirical superhero series takes a sharp look at corporate power in this 2008 Dynamite issue, and the cover says it all — a spread of currency styled after U.S. dollar bills, stamped with the Vought-American logo and labeled "Earth's Most Profitable Heroes," with costumed figures engraved where presidents would normally appear. Dominating the center medallion is a stern, shadowed face rendered in classic intaglio style, the whole composition making a pointed statement about superheroes as commodities rather than champions. Robertson's cover art is a genuinely clever piece of design work that sets the tone for "We Gotta Go Now Part One" with wit and a healthy dose of cynicism.
