The Absorbing Man — Crusher Creel — dominates this May 1979 cover in a massive, chain-swinging pose as the full Avengers lineup scrambles around him: Vision firing optic beams, Ms. Marvel in aerial combat, Beast charging from below, and Hawkeye and the Scarlet Witch bracing for the fight. George Pérez's pencils and Terry Austin's inks give the composition real kinetic energy, with Creel's glowing, straining figure making it immediately clear why the cover banner proclaims "The Absorbing Man Lives!" Earth's Mightiest Heroes have their work cut out for them this issue.
