During a sweltering summer in the Wheat Kingdom, Peter Wheat and his companions Beetle and Blue Jay devise a plan to bring snow down from Mt. Polli to cool everyone off by loading it into a wagon. However, they are intercepted by a Troll King and a Grand Wizard who cast a spell on Blue Jay, forcing Peter and Beetle to venture into an icy palace to rescue him and confront the Troll King's magic. Peter discovers a stairway beneath the palace and uses magic words to free his friends from the wizard's spell, leading to a climactic magical duel between Peter's magic and the Grand Wizard's wand. After a fierce battle, Peter defeats the Grand Wizard, though he is knocked back down a mountain by the Troll King before making his escape.
