# Texas Rangers in Action #55 This issue contains two stories. The cover story, "Don't Miss the Slow Gun!," follows a Texas Ranger whose loyalty to his prized Remington .44 revolver costs him his life, with other rangers pursuing those responsible for his death. A second story, "Night Fighter," depicts a confrontation at the Hades Corner Cafe where Rangers Tubbs and his partner exchange gunfire with suspects in the darkness; Ranger Aaron Osborne is later revealed to be the one outlaw who can fight better in the dark than the Rangers can in daylight, prompting the Rangers to pursue him.

Sword of El Cid
8 pp · Western-Frontier

A Mexican officer calling himself El Cid—claiming descent from the legendary Spanish hero—has escaped execution and crossed the Rio Grande with a fanatical army, determined to reconquer Texas with the promise of a magical sword at his side. When Texas Ranger Jim Barren discovers the invasion firsthand, he must find a way to stop El Cid's growing forces before they overrun the border, even as the would-be conqueror believes himself unstoppable. Written by the letters department of Texas Rangers in Action, this 1966 frontier tale pits one ranger's grit against the myth and steel driving a revolutionary army northward.

When word reaches headquarters that Lusk is holed up in Snake Canyon, Ornow sets out on their trail, only to discover that the shrewd outlaw has laid a trap that turns the tables on the slow-drawing lawman. As Ornow finds himself cornered in an empty cabin with enemies closing in, his loyalty to the old gun is about to be put to the ultimate test.
