☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThis anthology issue contains three stories featuring Texas Rangers. "The Careful Man" follows Ranger Jeff Aldred as he pursues four outlaws who raided Old Ben Winter's ranch and stole over $9,000; after a cold trail, Aldred finally gets close enough to two of the outlaws to call out his challenge. "Ticket to Boothill" and "A Ranger Is Chosen" are the other featured stories, though limited page samples prevent detailed plot summary of these tales.
Two ambitious punchers, Lee Foley and Johnny Teed, race to Captain Harden's office hoping to join the Texas Rangers, but there's only one position open. When the captain offers them a chance to prove themselves on a dangerous mission into outlaw country, the rivals get the opportunity to show what they're made of. As they face off against a gang of hardened criminals in Wolf Crossing, Captain Harden watches closely to determine which man truly has what it takes to wear the ranger badge.
Ranger Jeff Aldred pursues four outlaws who brutally robbed an old rancher, but after a brutal manhunt and a clever siege at their hideout, he's whittled the gang down to two. Now the careful lawman must track the remaining fugitives—the leader Big Bill Snowden and his partner Max—to a remote cantina near the border, where patience and caution will be tested against desperation. This 1965 tale shows why they call him "the Bulldog"—methodical, deliberate, and always thinking three moves ahead.
Texas Ranger Sam Bowfield arrives in the terrorized town of Two-Shot determined to take down outlaw leader Cully Hefft, who's driven honest settlers away and turned the community into a lawless stronghold. With Hefft planning to bury the ranger in the local Boot Hill cemetery before he ever gets started, Bowfield rallies the frightened townspeople and prepares for a final reckoning with the bushwhacker and his gang. "Ticket to Boot Hill" is a tense six-page showdown where quick wits and steady aim will decide whether Two-Shot gets its law back—or feeds another body to the grave.
In "Condemned," ranger Nick Emlin is abandoned in the merciless Devil's Sandbox with no supplies, left to die by three outlaws. Using his wits and frontier survival skills, he turns the desert's dangers against his captors, setting a course for justice one desperate step at a time.
