This issue contains two stories. In the first tale, a mysterious figure of unclear origin—neither fully cowboy nor Indian—is hired by a man named Costain to start an Indian war at a burial ground and steal gold from a mine, but a Texas Ranger intervenes to stop the plot and expose Costain's treachery. In the second story, "Texas Rangers in Action," the Rangers pursue Black Hawk, a Sioux leader, after he ambushes and kills a miner named Foster; the Rangers attack a stage station, defeat the Sioux in battle with support from an Apache chief, and capture Black Hawk.

Fool's Gold
8 pp · Western-Frontier

When a promising gold strike surfaces in sacred Native ground, a railroad lawyer who's won the trust of the frontier must choose between fortune and the peace he's carefully negotiated with Chief Red Plume. Texas Rangers Buff and a fellow lawman stumble onto a sinister plot that threatens to ignite the very war they've worked to prevent—and expose a betrayal by the most beloved man on the line.

Gunsmoke On the Trail
9 pp · Western-Frontier

When Ranger Tom Clement trails a murder suspect to a wagon train heading through Sioux country, he discovers his quarry has an alibi—and the real killer may still be among the travelers. Clement joins the wagon train as a scout, but as he grows close to a young woman named Lydia Mason, he must juggle his search for the miner's murderer with the mounting danger of Sioux attacks on the trail. In this 1963 story, duty and desire collide as the frontier closes in.

The Loaded Gun
8 pp · Western-Frontier

A man raised as an Apache warrior after a childhood attack leaves him caught between two worlds—but a second head wound strips away his Apache memories, leaving him remembering only his white past and unable to recall the years of violence he committed as the dreaded Black Hawk. When the Rangers capture him and bring him to headquarters for trial, they face an impossible question: how do you judge a man for crimes committed by someone he no longer remembers being? Written with lettering by typeset, "The Loaded Gun" explores the dangerous unpredictability of a person split between two identities, where the truth of who he really is could ignite at any moment.
