Tarzan of the Apes #[nn]
"A Long Chance" presents a pivotal chapter in the legend of Tarzan, drawn with masterful detail by Burne Hogarth, whose dynamic art brings to life the wilds of Africa and the extraordinary upbringing of the boy raised by apes. From the moment infant Tarzan is adopted by the great ape Kala after his parents' tragic demise, his sharp mind sets him apart—leading him to uncover his parents’ abandoned cabin, learn to read, and wield a hunting knife in a desperate fight for survival against the savage Bolgani. The story, written by Edgar Rice Burroughs and Robert M. Hodes, is illustrated in full by Hogarth, with the cover also by the legendary artist.

When the infant Tarzan's parents die after being marooned in Africa, childless Kala adopts the baby and raises him as a Great Ape. Over time his superior intelligence begins to give him an edge over his fellows. He repeatedly explores his parents' cabin, teaches himself the rudiments of reading, and finds a hunting knife which he uses, although gravely wounded, to slay the attacking Bolgani.
