DC's Tarzan Lord of the Jungle #240 (August 1975) kicks off something genuinely special: the first-ever comics adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs' final Tarzan novel, "The Castaways." Joe Kubert's cover art puts the Lord of the Jungle front and center, knife in hand, squaring off against a roaring lion while a fallen big cat lies at his feet, a tiger lurks nearby, and a pack of hyenas and ape-like figures watch from the shadows — a fierce, beautifully composed tableau that makes Tarzan's raw physicality impossible to ignore.
