The second volume of Le Lombard's Tango arrives with a sun-scorched tension that practically radiates heat — the cover sets a brooding, dangerous mood as a lean, open-shirted man strides forward carrying a rifle, while a second figure sits coolly in a beach chair under swaying palm trees, another weapon propped close at hand, dark birds circling a blood-red sky. Writer Matz and colorist Jean-Jacques Chagnaud (whose smoldering crimson palette gives the series its name a whole new meaning) deliver "Sable rouge" — Red Sand — a 2018 thriller that promises sun, danger, and uneasy alliances on a very unforgiving shore.
