The concluding chapter of Garth Ennis and John McCrea's three-part "The Thousand" arc arrives with one of the more unsettling Spider-Man covers of 2001 — Glenn Fabry renders the wall-crawler seated alone on a plain wooden chair, surrounded on all sides by a seething mass of spiders and flies closing in from every direction. It's a quietly dread-filled image, Spider-Man composed yet utterly encircled, that suggests the stakes of this finale are genuinely horrifying.
